Private Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve Tour (departs from Akumal)
Sian Ka’an is a biosphere reserve in the municipality of Tulum in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. It was established in 1986, became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987 and includes both Caribbean coastal environments as well the second largest series of wetlands in the Americas. The reserve also includes some 23 known archaeological sites of the Maya civilization, including the famous site of Muyil.
On this wonderful encounter with pristine nature you will visit the Sian Ka’an education center where one can appreciate the 200 conservation projects that investigate and promote sustainable development in sensitive tropical ecosystems.
After a short walk through the jungle to the ruins of Muyil you will board a small fishing boat and cross a lagoon by boat while your guide explains the reserve’s ecosystem and wildlife.
You will even have the opportunity to swim and float on the freshwater river that flows through the many natural channels, where you will be amazed by the different mangrove species as well as the other endemic flora and fauna.
This is paradise for nature lovers.
