What used to be a small fishing village at the very tip of Baja California, has now bloomed into one of the world’s most famous spots for scenery, sunbathing, snorkeling, and some of the best beaches in the world.
Here are three of the best things to do in Cabo San Lucas.
1. Take a whale watching tour
Early October through late March brings the annual migration of gray whales, when thousands of these magnificent creatures congregate in various shallow lagoons around the Baja Peninsula. Some only go as far as Laguna Ojo de Liebre, far north, in Guerrero Negro, but many go all the way to the Sea of Cortez side and pass right by Cabo San Lucas. These whale watching tours run to many places around the area, often lasting three to four hours.
2. Go scuba diving
3. Visit the town square
However, if you’re tired of deep sea fishing trips and underwater exploration, or if you’ve had your fill of beach activity and one too many margaritas, head to the Iglesia de San Lucas (Church of San Lucas). The main church of Cabo San Lucas is an excellent place to view native architecture and observe the local traditions. The Catholic church was constructed by a Spanish missionary in 1730 and is surrounded by a pristine plaza that contains several restaurants and small shops.
