The Mexican state of Quintana Roo, and in particular Playa del Carmen, contains a large percentage of Mexico’s parks and reserves, with much of the territory being covered by some sort of environmental protection. In the past five years there has been a number of ecotourism developments in these protected areas.
Some of the ecotourism projects, like the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, makes a solid effort to protect the natural resources and educate visitors. While other projects are primarily commercial, with an interest in promoting Playa del Carmen tours that provide more adrenaline-based encounters.
These sites, such as Río Secreto, and Xel-Há, are wildlife havens that are among the highlights of Playa del Carmen. You can also enjoy a plethora of recreational activities such as kayaking, trekking, diving and some of the best snorkeling in the world at these locations.
In Playa del Carmen beautiful beaches, good weather, exquisite Mexican culture, and imposing natural landscapes amalgamate to form an unforgettable experience.
