The Pueblos Mancomunados are eight remote villages that specialize in ecotourism programs, offering great wilderness escapes and an up-close experience with traditional Zapotec village life.
More than 60 miles of scenic tracks and hiking trails run between the villages to local beauty spots and places of interest, and you can easily enjoy several days exploring. Elevations in these hills range from 7,000 ft. to over 10,000 ft., and the landscapes, with canyons, caves, waterfalls and panoramic lookouts, are spectacular.
Several Oaxaca tours offer trips to the Pueblos Mancomunados, but it is not difficult to visit independently. Birdwatching, mountain biking and the nearby ruins of Monte Alban are only some of the things to experience.
The Pueblos Mancomunados are perfect for awakening the senses and discovering the unique Mexican culture of the Sierra Norte mountains. All the while being surrounded by beautiful, bountiful nature.
