Celestun Flamingo Adventure
Embark on an unforgettable boat ride through the estuary of the Celestun Wildlife Refuge, home to numerous mammal and more than 300 bird species, including land birds such as woodpeckers, hummingbirds and motmots, and sea birds such as frigates, herons, egrets, pelicans and ducks.
But the star attraction is the incredibly beautiful pink, or Caribbean flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber). You will witness literally thousands of these birds flock together as the fly overhead and spend time in shallow water eating the shrimp-like crustaceans that give them their unique pink color. The Biosphere Reserve of Celestun is one of the few places left in the world where we are able to view these fascinating birds in such great numbers in the wild.
Enjoy a quick, refreshing dip in clear freshwater pools before ending your boat ride and diving into a typical Mexican seafood lunch that awaits you at a quaint local restaurant on the beach of the town of Celestun.
