Hiking the Hills of San Miguel

The Desierto de los Leones (Desert of the Lions) National Park is an excellent choice for hikers with moderate and advanced experience. The park boasts around 4,600 acres, the highest summit of Cerro San Miguel at 12,400 feet and a beautifully forested area filled primarily with pines, oyamel firs, holm oaks and many brooks, ravines and waterfalls.

In addition the park is home to the Santo Desierto de Nuestra Señora del Carmen de los Montes de Santa Fe Convent built in 1606 by an order of barefoot Carmelites who chose this place as a place of meditation far away from the restlessness of the city.

The Cerro San Miguel summit is perfect for those who want to gain hiking experience at altitude.
