Pico de Orizaba Volcano Climb

Pico de Orizaba, also known as Citlaltépetl (translates from ancient Nahuatl as “star mountain”) is a stratovolcano that is also the highest mountain in Mexico and the third highest in North America, after Denali (United States) and Mount Logan (Canada). this dormant volcano boasts a height of 18,500 feet and is the second most prominent volcanic peak in the world after Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro.

Pico de Orizaba is one of only three volcanoes in México that continue to support glaciers (nine in total) and is home to the largest glacier in Mexico, Gran Glaciar Norte.

This climb is only available to experienced mountain climbers as its height and technical challenges are not suitable for beginners nor moderately experienced climbers. The shadow that the mountain casts on the surrounding flat plains when standing on the summit at sunrise is a highlight of this very exacting experience.

Your professional guide will ensure that you both acclimatize correctly and pace your ascent in order to enjoy all the incredible views that Pico de Orizaba’s summit affords.
